Magnesium Oxide Ring Description
Magnesium Oxide Rings are high-performance ceramic parts made from magnesium oxide, offering exceptional durability and resistance to wear and tear. These rings are highly valued for their excellent electrical insulating properties and ability to withstand harsh chemical environments. Ideal for use in various industrial settings, they provide reliable performance in equipment like heating elements, gas discharge tubes, and electrical insulators, ensuring consistent results in demanding conditions.
Magnesium Oxide Ring Features
- Excellent Electrical Insulation: Magnesium oxide rings provide superior electrical insulating properties, making them ideal for use in electrical applications.
- High Chemical Resistance: These rings can withstand exposure to a wide range of chemicals, providing durability in corrosive environments.
- Wear Resistance: Magnesium oxide offers high hardness and excellent wear resistance, extending the lifespan of parts in contact with abrasive materials.
- High Thermal Conductivity: Magnesium oxide rings effectively transfer heat, making them suitable for applications requiring efficient heat dissipation.
- Low Expansion Rate: Magnesium oxide has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, ensuring stability under varying temperature conditions.
Magnesium Oxide Ring Applications
- Electrical Insulation: Used in electrical equipment like heating elements, insulators, and spark plugs to provide reliable insulation.
- Gas Discharge Tubes: Magnesium oxide rings are used as insulators in gas discharge tubes, helping to maintain performance under high-voltage conditions.
- Thermal Management: In applications requiring effective heat management, such as in furnaces and kilns, magnesium oxide rings ensure efficient heat transfer.
- Chemical Processing: Ideal for environments exposed to corrosive substances, such as reactors and chemical reactors, to resist chemical attack.
- Aerospace Components: These rings are used in aerospace systems for their high strength, electrical insulation, and ability to withstand extreme conditions.
Magnesium Oxide Ceramic Machining
Magnesium oxide can be machined in green or bisque form before sintering, and to a limited extent in its fully sintered state. In its pre-sintered state, the material is relatively soft and easier to shape, but like many ceramics, it undergoes significant shrinkage—up to 20%—during sintering, which can affect final dimensions. Fully sintered magnesium oxide is very hard and brittle, requiring diamond tools and precision equipment for any post-sintering machining.
Machining Methods and Considerations
- Green or Bisque Machining: Easier to cut and form, suitable for complex shapes before firing.
- Sintering Shrinkage: Expect about 15–20% dimensional reduction during sintering, which impacts tolerance control.
- Post-Sintering Machining: Requires diamond grinding tools due to the material’s hardness and brittleness.
- Fragility: Fully sintered MgO is prone to chipping and fracture if not handled with care during machining.
- Tooling and Time: Machining dense MgO ceramics is time-consuming and requires specialized equipment.
Magnesium Oxide Ceramic Packaging
Magnesium oxide ceramic products are typically packaged in vacuum-sealed bags to prevent moisture or contamination and wrapped with foam to cushion vibrations and impacts during transport, ensuring the quality of products in their original condition.
